Button Quilt

button quilt

I inherited 1000s of buttons from my friend.

Here are some stitched onto gessoed brown wax paper.

Mostly I just look at them and run my fingers through them.

Sunflower Sentinel

sunflower sentinel 1

Sunflower guarding, protecting.  Just look up and know you are safe.

Getting ready for a show in December in Kirkland.

I’m OCD about  sunflowers this week so expect a field of them at the Art Shop, Kirkland, December 10-20, 2009.

Beads!

August 26, 2009

beaded pouch side one

This is a beautiful, elaborate beaded pouch that my friend Kim made.

Ahhhhh, nice fringe!

Windexing my scanner helped for two scans, then it went back to it’s bad behavior.  Also, have I mentioned that my life recently is like a sorry country western song?

Sanctuary 2

My scanner is chopping the edges and tops off of paintings.  On it’s own little editting agenda.

Like the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I will seek solution to this problem first with Windex!

“An image reflected in a mirrow, a rainbow

in the sky, and a painted scene

Make their impressions upon the mind, but in

essence are other than what they seem

Look deeply at the world, and see an illusion,

a magician’s dream.”

The Seventh Dalai Lama, The Song of the Immaculate Path

Have a beautiful day, breathe deep and see the illusion.  Listen to the invisible.

Dance in the magician’s dream.

Sweet Chicken Video

July 16, 2009

My mom-in-law sent this video from the NY Times.  Actually it’s a slide show with audio and reminds me to post pictures of the chicken coop tour we recently went on.

In other news, Mike just got home from a trip out of town.  He and Max went on an inspection of the backyard.  I was informed that the pumpkins and cucumbers look fried.  uh oh.  I told him they always look that way in the afternoon.  I don’t think he bought that.  So much for my Susie Gardener image…………………..

Green Juice!

July 15, 2009

I made this video a few weeks ago.  I’ve been pretty committed to green juices, even making them last weekend when we were out of town.  The green juice I’m having today starts with water, a pinch of sea salt, handful of walnuts, blueberries, raspberries, colander full of lettuces, parsley, chives, peaches, green tea that I brewed yesterday and a splash of balsamic vinegar!!!!

The goal is to add as many veggies as possible: so good for you but I’m not a super fan.  Mike used to (notice the past tense) say I was really good at buying vegetables.  Notice that’s the end point!!!!!!!!!  So by making this juice every day I’m adding 2 veggie servings and 1 fruit.  And I don’t have to chew so much!

In the video I mention Chia Seeds.  I used all the ones I had and haven’t re-purchased.  I really liked them though.  They are high in antioxicants, fiber, omega-3s, protein, lipids.  Low in sodium and fewer net carbs than other grains.  Most interesting of all:  Chia Seeds were the survival food of Aztec warriors.  Eat your seeds and bring that peaceful warrior spirit into your heart!

Front yard gardening

June 24, 2009

Just a few scattered seeds and not that much care yields a lot of high quality food!

Michelle Obama’s White House garden has already produced over 90 lbs of produce.

As I walk around my neighborhood I’m excited about how many front yard gardens there are.  We’re going on a chicken coop tour of Salt Lake City on Saturday so I’m sure I’ll be seeing some inspirational gardens (fueled by chicken poop!).  Also in anticipation of my new compost bin in the shape of a large ball that can roll around the yard.

nt 89

Just went for a hike with Max in the foothills but too hot for dogs today.  He lagged behind the whole way:(

He was probably thinking how stupid to be hiking in the Rattlesnake time of day.  I’ll go again at dawn on Thursday to take pictures of Sego Lilies, our state flower and the first spring of four that I’ve seen them.

A Neighbor and A Tree, That’s All You Need #89 and a dog to hike with………

marigolds

I have some visitors in my garden at night munching on my green bean plants.

I keep forgetting to don my headlamp, search and destroy.

Instead I planted these lovely marigolds which are believed to give those dudes the stink eye (stink folliage?).
